DMIXOLOGIST Radio joins Caribbean music lovers in remembering Slinger Francisco, known around the world as The Mighty Sparrow. Born in Grenada and raised in Trinidad, Sparrow brought Caribbean stories to audiences far beyond the islands. His 1956 breakthrough, “Jean and Dinah,” helped establish a career that would leave a lasting mark on calypso.

His music made room for laughter, sharp social commentary and Caribbean pride. Through his voice and storytelling, everyday experiences became songs that listeners could carry with them for a lifetime. For many of us, Sparrow’s music brings back memories of home—family gatherings, Carnival celebrations and the records we grew up hearing. Celebrating his legacy means sharing those songs and their stories with another generation.

From DMIXOLOGIST Radio, thank you, Sparrow, for the music, the wit and the memories.

The Next Soca Showdown - Lyrikal & Skinny Banton

Be prepared for the next Showdown takes place on March 10. The two artistes, who are often mistaken for each other, will go head to head with songs from their catalogues and no doubt have fans thoroughly entertained with their banter. The first Showdown was held in October and saw Patrice Roberts and Alison Hinds going song for song in 10 categories. But unlike that one, the Lyrikal vs Skinny Showdown will be less structured with the artistes determining the flow, said Andre Jeffers of Perception Management. Showdown will air on 8 pm Wednesday, March 10 on Digicel's Facebook and YouTube and D Music App.
